According to Dubai Police, the accident occurred when a minibus collided with a truck that had stopped on the road following a mechanical problem.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, said preliminary findings indicate that the truck had suddenly halted in the middle of the road because of a technical malfunction. He said the minibus driver allegedly failed to maintain a safe distance and did not react in time, resulting in a rear-end collision with the stationary vehicle.
Authorities deployed specialists from the Traffic Accident Investigation Section to examine the scene and gather evidence to establish the exact sequence of events.
“Traffic patrols regulated traffic flow, secured the site, and facilitated the access of rescue vehicles. Work teams also removed the damaged truck and bus to restore normal traffic flow,” Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan said.
Following the incident, Dubai Police urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before travelling and warned against stopping in active traffic lanes because of breakdowns, fuel shortages or tyre failures, highlighting the serious risks such situations can pose to road users.
